Casa Karen is a Canarian house that we have furnished with a great deal of love, so that you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Antique furniture, chandeliers, paintings and warm colours create the kind of atmosphere in which you quickly lose track of the days. The house sits in a quiet corner of Tías, just a few minutes from the beaches of Puerto del Carmen.
Throw open the tall glazed doors in the morning and the garden and living room become one. A book in the wingback chair in the afternoon, a film on the sofa in the evening, streamed from your own Netflix or Prime account.
As night falls, light the candles and let the crystal chandelier bathe the old wooden table in a warm glow. Beyond the window, the lights of Arrecife sparkle.
This is a kitchen that makes you want to cook. You look out onto the greenery while papas arrugadas bubble away in salted water and fresh fish sizzles in the pan. There are plenty of pots, pans and dishes, so the dishwasher in the patio can happily fill up over a few days. More time for the terrace.
The cold water in the kitchen is filtered and safe to drink. If you have a sensitive stomach, we still recommend boiling it or buying bottled water at the supermarket.
In the red bedroom, you open the French doors in the morning and step barefoot onto the garden terrace. The grey bedroom is a quiet retreat in soft greys and whites. Both have a comfortable double bed waiting for you.
This is where life happens. Breakfast under the white pergola, a siesta in the shade of the old tree, sunshine on a lounger. And when the garden lights come on in the evening, you will want to linger just a little longer.
Daylight falls from above onto your desk in the patio, and outside the sun is shining. Lunch is on the terrace rather than at your desk. And once the last video call is over, the sea is just ten minutes away.

Tías sits on the hillside between the sea and the black vineyards of La Geria. Life here is still authentically Canarian: people meet for a café cortado, pick up fresh bread in the morning and eat in the evening at small restaurants where the locals dine too. The Nobel Prize-winning writer José Saramago made Tías his home and lived here until his death. Today his house is open to visitors.
For all its hilltop setting and sweeping views, everything is close at hand: the beach, the airport and the Fire Mountains of Timanfaya.
